Looking to spark iPad sales, Apple is developing a 12.9-inch model that will go into production early next year.

Apple will release a 12.9-inch iPad early in 2015

Today's iPad Air has a 9.7-inch screen. The iPad Mini has a 7.9-inch screen.

Apple isn't the only tech company coming out with larger-screen tablets. Samsung, Apple’s chief rival in mobile devices, already offers a larger tablet. And Microsoft recently bumped its Surface Pro tablet from 9.7 inches to 12.2 inches. Smaller tablets like the iPad Mini or the Google Nexus 7 fill a need, but when it comes to real-world productivity, bigger is better.

Meanwhile, Apple's iPad business has been pretty sluggish. iPad sales growth has been declining. This chart will give you a good idea of how the iPad business is going for Apple:

One way Apple is trying to reinvigorate iPad sales is by selling the devices to large companies through its new partnership with IBM. IBM will use its sales force to sell iPads to large enterprises. It'll also make enterprise apps for the tablets.

The iPad joins a number of devices rumored to sport a larger screen in 2014, including the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and the 5.5-inch iPhone 6L.

Apple thinks you want an even larger 12.9-inch iPad, so what do you think?
